36. Have you ever had to wear a uniform to work?
When I worked for Van Heusen Direct, we ended up with a Gap-style "uniform" with a twist: khaki, tan, navy twill pants with a white button down Oxford dress shirt and (here's the twist) a necktie. For a while we girls even had to wear neckties, but that didn't last long. (Thank God because we hated it!) One day an older couple came into the store when the other assistance manager, Jamie, and I were working. The gentleman started getting all upset and huffy, and mumbled something to the effect of, "I'm not shopping in a store that hires those kind of people!" They were about to leave, and he was still ranting, when we stopped them, and asked what was wrong. Without coming out and actually saying it, he implied strongly that he didn't approve of "our kind" and refused to shop here because of us. He made an additonal comment about how Van Heusen used to be such a nice place, or something like that, and we finally figured it out: this guy thought Jamie and I were lesbians because we were wearing neckties!!! He didn't want to shop in a store that hired homosexuals! We quickly corrected him, and told him it was the company's dress code; we were forced to dress this way, and we really didn't like it any more than he did. He was totally outraged and appalled by this news, and we cheerfully gave him the toll-free customer service number so he could complain to the company. Heh. I don't know if it was that incident in particular, or what, but about a month later, we girls were allowed to wear scarves instead of ties. Yay! We won!

There are two new JournalCon updates in Self-Portrait. Enjoy!
There are a few new JournalCon-related entries up on the journal. I'm not sure if I'll end up writing any more-detailed entries, so you might just have to console yourself with the pictures.
Well, I'm home, safe and sound from my amazing weekend! I apologize for not updating as promised, but the hotel's computer was either always in use, or, as was the case when I attempted to make a drunken update Saturday night, not working properly.
Well, I'm about outta here - next stop: JournalCon in Washington DC!
I know I said I was going to just chill out about my flight leaving half an hour earlier than I thought, but I was wrong. I was a little freaked about it this morning, but now I'm feeling better.
I just realized I forgot to pack my PDA. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, since I don't really use it much anymore, but it does contain all the up-to-date addresses of my friends and family. Crap! I was totally going to send post cards from DC (I meant to send some from San Diego, but, alas, I didn't have time!)! Oh, well. I guess I can still write the post cards in DC; I'll just have to mail them from SLO!
Well, I'm all packed. I think I have everything. I noticed on my receipt for my airplane tickets that my plane leaves SLO at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening, instead of 6:30, as I originally thought. This could be a problem, since I don't get off work until 5. BUT. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just gonna go with the flow!
I didn't have any trouble coming up with a list of positive things today!
is up.
Yeah, I know I should go to bed since I've got to work in the morning, but I couldn't resist writing a little bit about my trip. A new entry is up in Self-Portrait right now, detailing Friday's adventures.
Well, I'm home! I had a fantastic (though rather expensive) weekend - the train trip down to San Diego was a bit spotty, but coming back it was great, the shopping was wonderful (but dangerous to the bank account!), the Quality Inn was sub-quality, but good for laughs, the San Diego Zoo totally rocked, and Jewel was, as usual, fabulous to hang out and share it all with.
Well, not quite, but soon. Very, very soon! I'm off to San Diego for the weekend. My bags are all packed and sitting by the door, along with my purse, car keys, and most importantly, my tickets! I'll be getting up at an ungodly hour to make the train in SLO, and will probably wonder what the heck I'm doing! Ha!
Today is not a very good day, but I'll try to come up with at least five positve things anyway:
I may have done this one before, but I don't remember. Anyway, I did it again.
I killed my entire lunch hour playing with this one.
Thanks to Chickybabe for the link!
