3. I got my bathroom all cleaned out yesterday - good heavens, but I had a lot of make-up! - and organized.

4. I got to sleep in both Saturday and Sunday.

7-up, but I'll drink Sprite, too.

36. Have you ever had to wear a uniform to work?
When I worked for Van Heusen Direct, we ended up with a Gap-style "uniform" with a twist: khaki, tan, navy twill pants with a white button down Oxford dress shirt and (here's the twist) a necktie. For a while we girls even had to wear neckties, but that didn't last long. (Thank God because we hated it!) One day an older couple came into the store when the other assistance manager, Jamie, and I were working. The gentleman started getting all upset and huffy, and mumbled something to the effect of, "I'm not shopping in a store that hires those kind of people!" They were about to leave, and he was still ranting, when we stopped them, and asked what was wrong. Without coming out and actually saying it, he implied strongly that he didn't approve of "our kind" and refused to shop here because of us. He made an additonal comment about how Van Heusen used to be such a nice place, or something like that, and we finally figured it out: this guy thought Jamie and I were lesbians because we were wearing neckties!!! He didn't want to shop in a store that hired homosexuals! We quickly corrected him, and told him it was the company's dress code; we were forced to dress this way, and we really didn't like it any more than he did. He was totally outraged and appalled by this news, and we cheerfully gave him the toll-free customer service number so he could complain to the company. Heh. I don't know if it was that incident in particular, or what, but about a month later, we girls were allowed to wear scarves instead of ties. Yay! We won!

37. Last thing you bought at a pharmacy?
Carefree Lightdays pantyliners, the long ones with the full coverage, and stay-dri lining. Now aren't you glad you asked?

38. Ever throw up in public?
Not that I remember or anything, but I probably puked in public when I was a kid.

39. Would you prefer being a millionaire or find true love?
I'd rather be a millionaire; I've had true love, baby, and it doesn't pay the bills.

40. Do you believe in love at first sight?
No.

41. Ever call a 1-900 number?
No freakin' way!

42. Can ex’s be friends?
They can, I suppose, but they probably shouldn't be.

43. Who was the last person you visited in a hospital?
Probably my dad, back in '81. I can't thik of anyone else.

44. Did you have a lot of hair when you were a baby?
No, I was practically bald!

45. What message is on your answering machine?
I don't have an answering machine.

46. What’s your all time favorite Saturday Night Live Character?
I never really watched SNL, so I don't have one.

47. What was the name of your first pet?
O'Malley, as in O'Malley the Alley Cat, you know, from Disney's "The AristoCats".

48. What is in your purse?
My wallet and keys, sunglasses, digital camera, cell phone, a small notebook and pen, a copy of I, Robot, and a clear make-up case containing my lip gloss, pressed powder, a small package of Kleenex, a few band-aids, dental floss, Listerine breath strips, Blistex, and a small bottle of Advil.

49. Favorite thing to do before bedtime?
Well, I don't know if I'd call it my favourite thing, but I am trying to get into the habit of reading my Bible for at least a half hour before going to bed. Hopefully it will become my favourite thing to do!

50. What is one thing you are grateful for today?
My friends and family. (They count as one!)

August 24, 2004   ::   JournalCon Updates

There are a few new JournalCon-related entries up on the journal. I'm not sure if I'll end up writing any more-detailed entries, so you might just have to console yourself with the pictures.

  ::   Safe and Sound

Well, I'm home, safe and sound from my amazing weekend! I apologize for not updating as promised, but the hotel's computer was either always in use, or, as was the case when I attempted to make a drunken update Saturday night, not working properly.

(Actually, I'm quite relieved the Saturday post didn't post! I'm sure it was a bit embarrassing!)

Anyway, I did write entries during the Con, and took tons of pictures, so all will be revealed soon!

  ::   A Slight Panic Attack

I know I said I was going to just chill out about my flight leaving half an hour earlier than I thought, but I was wrong. I was a little freaked about it this morning, but now I'm feeling better.
During my lunch break I ran down to the airport and dealt with my long-term parking permit. I inquired about possibly checking my luggage as well, but was told that wasn't such a good idea.

"Oh, because of security issues?" I asked.

"Oh, well, no," the Info Lady told me. "It's just that they'll probably lose your luggage."

Well, that's comforting! Anyway, since I have the parking permit all taken care of, I back to being excited about this trip rather than freaked out. The only possible problem now is I might not have time to change into the comfy travel clothes I brought with me. Still, the outfit I'm wearing today (brown capri pants and beige striped short-sleeve sweater with slide-on flats) is pretty comfortable, and would be just fine to travel in.

So, it appears everything is go! Now, I just need for it to be 5:00!

  ::   What I forgot to pack

I just realized I forgot to pack my PDA. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, since I don't really use it much anymore, but it does contain all the up-to-date addresses of my friends and family. Crap! I was totally going to send post cards from DC (I meant to send some from San Diego, but, alas, I didn't have time!)! Oh, well. I guess I can still write the post cards in DC; I'll just have to mail them from SLO!

August 18, 2004   ::   Ready to go!

Well, I'm all packed. I think I have everything. I noticed on my receipt for my airplane tickets that my plane leaves SLO at 6 p.m. tomorrow evening, instead of 6:30, as I originally thought. This could be a problem, since I don't get off work until 5. BUT. I'm not going to worry about it. I'm just gonna go with the flow!

Yeah, I know I should go to bed since I've got to work in the morning, but I couldn't resist writing a little bit about my trip. A new entry is up in Self-Portrait right now, detailing Friday's adventures.

  ::   Home, Sweet Home!

Well, I'm home! I had a fantastic (though rather expensive) weekend - the train trip down to San Diego was a bit spotty, but coming back it was great, the shopping was wonderful (but dangerous to the bank account!), the Quality Inn was sub-quality, but good for laughs, the San Diego Zoo totally rocked, and Jewel was, as usual, fabulous to hang out and share it all with.

Detailed updates and, most importantly, PICTURES coming soon, I promise! Right now, however, I'm going to take a quick shower, and go to bed. Cheers!

August 12, 2004   ::   I'm off!

Well, not quite, but soon. Very, very soon! I'm off to San Diego for the weekend. My bags are all packed and sitting by the door, along with my purse, car keys, and most importantly, my tickets! I'll be getting up at an ungodly hour to make the train in SLO, and will probably wonder what the heck I'm doing! Ha!

But, seriously, I'm excited! I haven't travelled by train in a long time, and since we're going along the coast, the view should be beautiful! It's also been years since I've been to San Diego and the Zoo and stuff, so that should be really fun, too!

See you on the flip side!

August 9, 2004   ::   Participation Positives

Today is not a very good day, but I'll try to come up with at least five positve things anyway:

1. It's a short week - I go for a long weekend vacation to San Diego this Friday.

2. Then I have another short week because JournalCon is next weekend!!!

3. I got rid of three bags of clothing on Saturday. Now I've got room for all the fun new clothes I hope to get on vacation.

4. Today is halfway over already, so that's a good thing.

5. I might make it through this day, yet!
