The Days of NaNoWriMo 2003
my 2003 novel writing experience

This is my blog for the 2003 National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenge. I have participated in NaNoWriMo twice before - once in 2001 where I succeeded in writing a 50,000 word novel, and last year when I did not. I'm really looking forward to this year's challenge! Click on the link below to learn more about NaNoWriMo, and be sure to stop by here often after November first to see how my novel is progressing! Cheers!

It's That Time of Year Again

Time to sign up for NaNoWriMo! I'll be blogging about this year's attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days here.

Finished

Holy cow. I did it! I finished. Final word count: 52,536. And, now, I sleep!

So close! So close, but I'm running out of words!!!

My story is turning into a fanfic after all. I couldn't resist including some of the E! guys to help use up five more dares. They seem to be getting along well with my original characters, so that's good. I can really see a good fanfic in this when all is said and done.

More character sketches. More bullshit. More words.

Word Count: 21,415

I managed to get some writing done during my lunch hour. The story is really progressing now, and I've used four more Dares! Hopefully the inspiration will hang on until I can get home and write some more! Cheers!

Word Count: 20,166

Well, I had a pretty good weekend of writing, but not as good as I'd hoped. I'm not quite halfway finished, and there's only two weeks left. Gah! I'm starting to become disheartened.

Word Count: 11,222

I've had a great few days of writing! The story itself isn't all that great - okay, okay, it sucks! - but right now that isn't important: the words are. I can always go back and edit stuff later. I do have some good character sketches, scene descriptions, and some background stories, however, which I'm sure will come in handy. The next couple of days will be long and busy, so I doubt I'll get much if any writing done. Hopefully I'll be able to catch up next weekend. Cheers!

Wordless

I haven't managed to get any writing done the past couple of days. I've been too busy and too tired. Piss-poor excuses, I know, but there you go. I worked late Tuesday, not getting home until after 9:30, and went to Curves last night. I'll be at Curves again tonight, but I will hopefully get some writing in as well. If nothing else, I should be able to catch up this weekend. I have several scenes worked out in my head; it's just a matter of writing them down.

Word Count Update: 3,647. It's annoying to keep changing the word count on the sidebar, so I'm taking that off. I'll post my counts here instead. The writing is going well, although the story is very rough and very ugly. It's all about word count, though, right? Still, I'm getting some great stuff down that I can go back and revise and pretty up later on, which is very exciting. I used another dare yesterday (introduced a frog named Michigan, who will likely "hop" back onto the scene again this week!), and have a couple scenes with more dares planned.

The Beginning

Well, I finally started writing my novel. I've got 1,029 words, and I think that's enough for tonight. So far, I've used three Dares, and original characters. I know I was pretty sure it would be a fanfic yesterday, but today, well, I'm just writing. We'll see what comes out!

Counting Down

In less than twelve hours I will begin writing my novel. I think it might end up being a fanfic after all. Certain fictional characters have been clamoring for my attention lately, and I'm more than happy to oblige them! The numerous NaNoWriMo Dares I've accepted will more than fit in with many of these characters' personalities, as well as situations they usually find themselves in, so it should be (I'm hoping) an easy write. Okay, y'all have a safe and sane Halloween night, and happy writing!

Ready to Go

Okay, I'm all set! I've got my ideas, my dares, even a few characters sketched out. I've also got a name for my novel: 50,000 Words About 54 Cats, and a really cool graphics set for it. I'm ready to go! Bring on November 1st!!!

Ideas Galore!

Man, do I have story ideas now! Between the "Dares" thread on the NaNoWriMo Forum, my experiences at JournalCon, sewer woes at work, and feral kittens in the garage, I don't think I'll have trouble coming up with 50,000 words! Whether or not it all makes sense has yet to be seen, however!

Gathering Ideas

They say you should write about what you know. Well, I've had a couple pretty good ideas floating around in my head - one for a Western novel, and another fanfic - but now I'm thinking about taking that sage advice and writing about something I know a lot about. First hand. It's just the first glimmer of an idea right now, but isn't that what NaNoWriMo is all about? Starting with almost nothing, and ending up with a little (or a lot of) something? Maybe. Anyway, I have a thought. Hopefully I won't overthink it before November 1!

Almost Time

Well, it's that time of year again: NaNoWriMo Time! Just a little over two weeks from now, I will once again be attempting to write a 50,000 novel in 30 days. Wish me luck!
